  • What is a Tributes Page?

A Tributes Page or memorial page,  provides a unique and respectful ways for relatives, family and friends to pay tribute, remember and honour Loved Ones who have passed away. Our Tribute Pages are open and visible to the public.

Our website allows you to load photos, videos and comments to your Loved One’s Tributes Page, including your Loved One’s profile photo.  Friends and family can provide their stories, memories, photos and videos as well. These memories will be viewable online and can be shared on Facebook.

There is no cost to set up a Tributes Page with HonourThem.

If you have plot location details and GPS co-ordinates and would like these recorded on the Tributes Page, please contact us.

Our Tribute Pages are platforms for:
    1. Your online memorial page for your Loved One who is no longer with us.
    2. The official Funeral Notice – Simply ask your funeral director to do so.  Your funeral director can contact us on hello@honourthem.co.nz
    3. Our Headstone Directory – the index of headstone records

  • There is already a Tributes Page of my Loved One. Why? What do I do?

There are generally two reasons why you will find a Tributes Page already created for your Loved One:

    1.  Another person has already created a Tributes Page for this same Loved One.  You can create your own Tributes Page for the same Loved One, or contribute to the Tributes Page already set up.  You will need to be a Registered person to the HonourThem website to post any comments.

    2.  A Remembrance Enthusiast may have created a Tributes Page to record the headstone to our Headstone Directory.  We will copy headstone images and plot location details to your Loved One’s Tributes Pages if requested by you.   Please contact us.

  • I have created a Tributes Page for my Loved One & want to add plot location details, cemetery & headstone photos.

If you have any of the following details

    – cemetery name
    – cemetery photo
    – headstone photo
    – plot location details (area, block, row, plot number)

All Tribute Pages are open and can be viewed online. Once registered/logged in, friends and family can simply type in your Loved One’s name into the “Search” bar and be directed to the Tributes Page. They can then contribute photos/videos and post memories.

Or you can email people the link to the Tributes Page of your Loved One. To email the link, go to “My Account”, “Email to friend” and the customised email will be sent to the you, as the Tributes Page Administrator, to forward onto friends.

The Loved One’s Tributes Page can also be shared on Facebook.

  • Can I create a Tributes Page for a Loved One from anywhere around the world?

Our Tribute Pages are global and can be created for any Loved One no longer with us.

If you wish to create a Tributes Page for your Loved One, then go to “Create a Tributes Page” button.  You will be directed to the “Find Their Final Resting Place” page, where you can select either your Loved One’s Cemetery; Ashes not Interred; Cemetery not Listed or Final Resting Place not known.

If you find that we have not yet listed your Cemetery, then please click the “Cemetery Not Listed” button and you can go to the next step to create a Tributes Page. Once you have notified us of a new cemetery, we can add this to the left hand panel of your Loved One’s Tributes Page.

Our Cemetery Directory is detailed for New Zealand.  However, we need assistance from people / Remembrance Enthusiasts to incorporate Cemeteries in other counties. Please contact us by emailing through full address details of any Cemetery that you would like added to our Cemetery Directory.

3. Directories - Cemetery Directory & Headstone Directory

  • What if I cannot find a headstone in a cemetery?

If you cannot find a headstone of your Loved One, there may be no physical headstone on the grave location. For instance:

    • – The family may have decided not to place a headstone on the gravesite
    • – The grave may be a common (poor persons) grave
    • – The headstone may have been removed for safety reasons by the local council
    • – There may have been no immediate family to arrange a headstone.

  • What is a Cemetery Directory?

If there is already a Tributes Page created for a Loved One, then you can simply create a new Tributes Page for the Loved One with the purpose of documenting the headstone to the Headstone Directory.

  • I’m a Remembrance Enthusiast & I want to upload the headstone photo to the Tributes Page. How do I do this?

All photos should show the details on the headstone clearly.  Please ensure that the headstone fills the photo and is clear with no shadows and is taken ‘straight on’.

The headstone images are added as the Loved One’s profile photo to the Tributes Page. To add a headstone image –
The round profile photo (top left hand side of the Tributes Page).  Here there is a camera icon and this will direct you to the upload photo screen.

Generally, headstone photographs are taken with a smartphone, with the ability to provide a GPS location of the headstone (See FAQ “How do I set my mobile phone to obtain the GPS coordinates of my Loved One’s headstone?”).  Please list the longitude and latitude (GPS coordinates) at the back of the Tributes Page under “Plot Location” (access via “Edit Loved One’s Details”).

Then, please contact us so that we can capture the plot location information and add to the left hand panel at the front of the Tributes Page.

If you wish, you can transcribe the headstone and place the inscription details in the “Share Memories” box within the Tributes Page.

See an Example Headstone Record indexed to a Tributes Page

  • As well as a Headstone Image, I also want to also add Plot Location Details to the front panel of the Tributes Page. How do I do this?

On the front of the Tributes Page, select the “Edit Loved One’s Details” button.  You will be directed to the back page of the Tributes Page.  Update all the plot location details, GPS coordinates to the “Plot Location” box.

Second step is that HonourThem will move these to the front panel of the Tributes Page.  Please contact us so that we know to do this for you.

  • As a Remembrance Enthusiast, will I always be the “Tributes Page Administrator” of a Tributes Page with the headstones I record?

As a Remembrance Enthusiast, you will always be the “Tributes Page Administrator” to the Tribute Pages you create.

If you have indexed a headstone to our Headstone Directory and then a family or friend of the Loved One wishes to create their own Tributes Page, then we will, if requested to, copy the headstone image and plot location details to the other Loved One’s Tributes Page.

  • What do I do if I have the headstone images and want to send these directly to HonourThem?

If you have visited a cemetery and have taken photos of headstones and you wish to send directly to HonourThem to upload, then complete the HonourThem template designed for adding records to our Headstone Directory. Please click here to download   Please complete the spreadsheet with all details from the headstone.

Next step is to please send the spreadsheet to HonourThem on hello@honourthem.co.nz with the headstone photos.  HonourThem will create the Tribute Pages and by doing this, HonourThem will become the “Tributes Page Administrator” of the Tribute Pages.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

  • What happens if there is more that one person recorded on the headstone?

If there is more than one person recorded on the headstone, then please treat these Loved Ones as separate records (ie: create separate Tribute Pages).
For example: If there are three people on the one headstone then create three Tribute Pages ie: one for each person.

You can use the same photograph for each Loved One’s profile photo.  Ideally, please document within the Tributes Page that the deceased person is also resting with others and name them.

  • I’m not sure if the address is in a rural area? What do I do?

The courier will place a “Card to Call” in the letterbox asking the recipient to call the couriers office. • Headstone

A headstone is an inscribed stone or monument usually set at the head of the grave. Headstone sizes vary from region to region.

At HonourThem we classify a single headstone as being no more than 60cm high x 45cm width. A large headstone size is anything larger than the single headstone measurements. For example a large headstone includes double headstones in a lawn cemetery or headstones with concrete gravesites.

  • Gravesite

A gravesite is a space within a cemetery for a burial, and usually marked by a headstone. In previous years, a full border of stone or concrete often surrounded the grave. In more recent times, a headstone marks the head of the gravesite, with the remainder of the gravesite in lawn.
