  1. HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR A HONOURTHEM ACCOUNT?

    To sign up for a HonourThem account:
    You can click here to register to HonourThem.com
    Type your name and email address (your email address is the username for your  HonourThem account).
    Type a unique password.
    Click the box to agree to the HonourThem terms.
    Click ‘Login’.

  2. HOW WILL HONOURTHEM KEEP MY PHOTOS AND DATA SECURE?

    Your data is secure on the HonourThem site and will be available for generations to come.
    All of your data is securely stored and backed up on Amazon Web Services. 

    It is important for people to have local copies of all media on a removable disk.

  3. WHAT IS SUBJECT TO COPYRIGHT/TRADEMARK THAT I CANNOT UPLOAD TO HONOURTHEM?

    HonourThem works with people and organisations to protect their intellectual property rights.  Therefore, you can only post content you can legally distribute online.

    A trademark protects a work, slogan, symbol or design that distinguishes the product/service from others.  For example, a logo or a brand name.

    Whereas, copyright automatically applies (no registration required) to original words in the following categories:
    Literary works (novels, poems, song Lyrics, computer programming/programmes, compilations of data)
    Dramatic works (scripts for films or plays)
    Artistic works (Paintings, plans, maps, photographs, sculptures, models, buildings)
    Musical words (scores and arrangements)
    Sound recordings (of musicals, literary or dramatic words)
    Films
    Broadcasts (radio, TV, online, cable)
    Typographical arrangement of published editions.

    If in doubt as to copyright, only post links to music and videos elsewhere on the internet.  For example:  You can link through to www.youtube.com or www.spotify.com

    File sharing infringement happens when protected copyright work is illegally shared without the owner’s permission.  We will remove all content that infringes copyright.
     
    There is a report flag on the website for you to use to report copyright infringements. Alternatively, please contact us on HonourThemTeam@gmail.com to report anything that is concerning.

  4. I WANT TO REPORT HARMFUL CONTENT, WHAT IS THE PROCESS HONOURTHEM USES WHEN HARMFUL AND ILLEGAL CONTENT IS DISCOVERED?

    If criminal or illegal content is placed on the HonourThem website, we go immediately to the police.

    We follow a specific process when we receive reports about the following:
    Invasive or distressing photos or videos
    Invasion of Copyright
    Threatening, intimidating or menacing
    Offensive material and messages to a reasonable person in the position of the affected individual
    Indecent or obscene
    Spread of damaging or degrading rumours
    Used to harass an individual
    Makes a false statement
    Contains a matter that is published in breach of confidence
    Disclosing sensitive personal facts about another individual
    Incites or encourages anyone to send a message to an individual for the purpose of causing harm to the individual
    Invites or encourages another individual to commit suicide
    Denigrates an individual by reason of his or her colour, race, ethnic or national origins, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability
    We do not accept feuds between people to be played out on the HonourThem site.

  5. DOES HONOURTHEM ACTIVELY MODERATE THEIR SITE? WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR HONOURTHEM?

    Yes, we actively moderate our site to the highest professional level.

    HonourThem require that all Memorial Pages are respectful and honest. Memorial Pages can only be used for deceased people. Specifically, that:

    All information is true and correct and not false or defamatory
    You agree to use your true name (don’t pretend to be someone else)
    You may not add the personal information of others without their knowledge
    You are required to respect copyrights, legal rights of people and trademarks
    The page will not feature any inappropriate or obscene words, abusive words, photos (no post-mortem photos), pictures or video content and is suitable for viewing by children.  No adult content.
    Don’t break the law: libel, slander and defamatory comments are forbidden
    Don’t resort to name-calling; mean-spiritedness, or slagging off.  Be respectful.
    No spam
    No self-promotion
    No promotion of other communities
    Add value to the group with relevant content (no off-topic posts)

    To ensure the integrity of the website, HonourThem reserves the right to remove any disrespectful comments, photos, videos, music, audio or listings that it deems unsuitable or in breach of our Terms and Conditions. We also reserve the right to permanently ban people from the HonourThem site if they violate our guidelines.  If you see an inappropriate comment that you would like us to review then please click the ‘report’ button throughout the site or contact us on HonourThemTeam@gmail.com
    If a comment, photo or video is contested then we remove the content or take the Memorial Page offline.

  7. TRANSLATION OF THE MAORI PROVERB

    Whakataukī (proverbs) play a large role within Maori culture. They are used as a reference point in speeches and also as guidelines spoken to others day by day. It is a poetic form of the Maori language often merging historical events, or holistic perspectives with underlying messages which are extremely influential in Maori society.

    A totara is a huge tree that grows for hundreds of years. For one of them to fall is a great tragedy. This proverb is said when someone of importance passes away. The Totara is a native tree of New Zealand.

    Obituaries – Dedicated to publishing death notices/funeral notices from across the world.
    Memorial Pages – A dignified and collective gathering point for storytelling and family photo albums to remember a Loved One who has passed away. A curated repository of photos, videos, music and comments. A digital platform for the family photo album and family stories.

    Our Directories:
    Funeral Homes Directory – a list of funeral homes including name, address, website link and logo.  Including a list of their published Obituaries, other locations and more.
    Charities Directory – a list of charities in New Zealand
    Cemeteries Directory – a list of cemeteries and addresses in New Zealand.

  9. GLOSSARY OF TERMS

    Anniversary Notices / In Memoriam Notices
    Anniversary Notices (In Memoriam Notices) are usually published on the anniversary of a Loved One’s passing.
     
    Content Reviewer
    A Content Reviewer  (content moderator) is a person who screens the website to ensure that our community operates in a kind respectful and law-abiding way.
     
    Family Notice / Acknowledgement Notice
    A Family Notice (Acknowledgement Notice) is usually published after a funeral or memorial service to thank all those who supported the family in their time of need.
     
    Funeral Home / Funeral Director
    A funeral home is a funeral services business that provides interment and funeral services.
    A funeral director is the professional involved in the business.
     
    Memorial Page
    A Memorial Page is an online, virtual page created for the purpose of paying tribute, commemorating, celebrating, remembering and honouring those who have passed away. Family and friends can contribute with photos, music, videos, voice memos, their own words and memories.
    Traditional storytelling and the family photo album can now be digital and placed online as a Memorial Page.

    Memorial Service

    A service to celebrate the life of a person.  Most of the time, the body or ashes are present at the funeral but not at a memorial service. A funeral is typically held soon after a person’s passing. A memorial service can be held many days, weeks or months later.
     
    Obituary / Funeral Notices / Death Notices
    An Obituary (Funeral Notice or Death Notice) is usually published following the death of a person and provides details of family, along with information about their upcoming funeral service.
    A ‘Medical Certificate of Cause of Death’ (commonly known as the ‘death certificate’) is provided.
    For information:  A Death Certificate is the formal document produced by the Government Registrar and these are applied for 3 days after the funeral.
    HonourThem keeps Obituary notices online permanently.

  10. CAN I BOOK A PHONE CALL FOR HONOURTHEM TO CALL ME?

    Yes.

    Our support office is based in Auckland and we work in the New Zealand time zone.

    At this current time, English and Te Reo Māori languages only please within the HonourThem website.

  12. PRICES – WHAT IS THE PRICE FOR AN OBITUARY NOTICE?

    Death Notices/Obituary Notices – FREE
    Public announcement with funeral details.
    Profile photo of your loved one
    If required, donation link to a chosen charity
    Receive condolence messages.
    Remains online permanently.

  13. PRICES – WHAT IS THE PRICE FOR A MEMORIAL PAGE?

    Memorial Page: FREE
    Create a Memorial Page and upload your photos, videos and messages to the Story Wall.
    Simply record a voice memo from your smart phone and add.
    Add video-sharing via You Tube and music-sharing via Spotfiy.
    Invite others to join and share their memories.

    The HonourThem platform is free for the first 1GB of media (Photo and video) storage.  Approximately 550 photos or 55 minutes of family videos.  It is only when you opt to subscribe to a paid tier that provides additional storage that you will need to pay.

  14. HOW CAN I VIEW MY ORDER?

    Once you are logged in, you can view your order by going to your ‘My Account’>’My Account Dashboard’>’Billing and Payments’

  15. HOW CAN I PAY FOR THE SERVICES OF HONOURTHEM?

    We use ‘Stripe’ to manage our payments. HonourThem do not hold the credit cards details on file and the HonourThem team cannot access your credit card details.

  16. REDIRECT THE MAIL

    Have the mail redirected and this may also help you identify bills that need to be paid and accounts that should be closed. You will need to file a request with the NZ Post and show proof that you are an appointed executor and authorised to manage their mail.
